Fukuoka, Japan – The 2026 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship pool stage is unfolding at a fast pace in Fukuoka. After the opening round of group matches, Japan and Iran remain undefeated and have not lost a set. That gives both teams a huge advantage heading into the knockout rounds. Chinese Taipei also claimed their first victory against Qatar, and India still depends on the result of Oman versus Bahrain. Against Bahrain, Ran Takahashi added 13 points at 70% with five service aces. Japan do not rely on one player, as scoring is spread across wings and serving phases. Iran are also displaying depth and physical presence. Poriya Khanzadeh, playing as opposite, contributed 20 points. The outside hitters added 11 points each. This balanced attack makes Iran difficult to defend and less dependent on a single scorer. Chinese Taipei secured their first win against Qatar, with captain Chang Yu-Sheng recording six kill blocks. The result is a strong boost before more decisive matches. India, meanwhile, still have to wait. Vinith Charles scored 19 points, including kill blocks, but the path to the quarterfinals will be decided by Oman versus Bahrain. The tournament scoring system rewards clean wins with three points, wins in five sets with two points, and losses in five sets with one point. That is why every set matters. Observing Asian volleyball over the years, I believe that high attacking efficiency in easy matches should not be treated as proof of a complete tactical system. The real test will come when teams struggle in reception and need to adjust their rotation under pressure.
